Voicemail Clues

The following is an excerpt from The Book on Sales Tips – one tip, one page, one minute:

If the gatekeeper asks if you want the boss’s voicemail, always say yes, if for no other reason than to hear the outgoing message.

If the boss’s message is short – almost curt – this is a Driver personality. If you leave a message, cut to the chase. When you meet this person, talk the big picture and forget the details. Expect a quick decision. This will be a short selling cycle.

If the boss’s outgoing message is long and drawn out, you have the Analytical. It’s okay to leave a detailed message, but keep it under a minute. On your appointment, make sure your facts are right. This person has little trust in others. And buckle down. This is going to be a long selling cycle.
